Harwi and Salvamac: working together on the future of abbreviation

The way wood and sheet materials are processed is changing. Safety, ergonomics, and efficiency play an increasingly important role in the workshop. At the same time, finding experienced craftsmen is becoming more difficult. This calls for machines that are not only accurate and reliable, but also safe and easy to operate.
Based on that development, Harwi and Salvamac have started a collaboration for a new generation of crosscut saws.
Why is the way of abbreviating changing?
Harwi has been developing and building sawing machines for the professional woodworking industry for over sixty years. Crosscutting has always been an important part of this. For example, radial saws have been a widely used solution for fast and accurate crosscutting of wood for many years.
However, the demands placed on machines have changed over the years. While capacity and accuracy naturally remain important, safety and ergonomics are also receiving increasing attention.
With traditional cutting solutions, safety depends to a large extent on the person operating the machine. Experience, concentration, proper operation, and correct adherence to procedures play an important role in this.
Modern machines can support a larger part of that safety by design.
Safety as part of the machine
That principle aligns well with Salvamac's vision. During the development of their crosscut saws, safety is incorporated into the machine design from the very beginning.
For Harwi, this is an important development. Especially at a time when experienced professionals are scarce and machines must be able to be operated by various employees.
A safe machine must therefore not only protect, but also operate logically and pleasantly. Clear controls, good ergonomics, and a controlled sawing process all contribute to this.
Why Harwi and Salvamac?
The collaboration between Harwi and Salvamac originated in late 2025 during Salvamac Together. It soon became apparent that both companies view market developments in a similar way.
Salvamac possesses extensive knowledge and experience in modern cutting technology. The emphasis is on safety, robust construction, reliable technology, and relatively simple operation. Machines are developed for intensive daily use and must continue to function accurately and stably in the long term.
Harwi adds over sixty years of experience with professional sawing machines and market knowledge to this. Moreover, thanks to our extensive dealer network, we know what is happening in daily practice and what requirements a modern crosscut saw must meet. That combination formed the basis for the collaboration.
Not a standard machine, but a joint solution
From the start, it was clear that we did not simply want to add an existing Salvamac machine to our range.
Together, we looked for a solution that aligns with the wishes of Harwi, our dealers, and their customers. Salvamac's technology and expertise form the basis for this, combined with our experience in the market.
The result is a machine developed specifically for this collaboration, which is offered through Harwi and our dealer network as SALVAMAC by HARWI .
In this collaboration, two different areas of expertise come together. Salvamac contributes technical knowledge of modern crosscutting systems, while Harwi adds its experience with sawing machines, dealers, and the daily practices of wood processing companies.
What does this collaboration yield for the user?
Ultimately, a collaboration like this is not about two brand names on one machine. It is about what the machine delivers in the workshop.
The new abbreviation solution therefore focuses on a combination of:
• a high level of safety;
• simple and clear operation;
• good ergonomics;
· a robust and reliable construction;
· accurate and reproducible saw cuts;
• an efficient abbreviation process.
This results in a machine that fits the way modern wood processing companies want to operate.
Developing further together
We do not view the first SALVAMAC by HARWI machine as an endpoint. On the contrary, the collaboration offers opportunities for further development.
By combining our market experience with Salvamac's technical knowledge, new ideas can be quickly discussed and translated into practical solutions. Safety, reliability, ease of use, and efficiency remain central throughout this process.
Harwi has been building machines for the professional woodworking industry for over sixty years. With this collaboration, we are adding new knowledge and technology to that. Because sometimes working together is more than simply adding two areas of expertise together.
Then 1 + 1 actually becomes 3.
